It is always exciting to post for the first time on a blog. Cara and I are 40 days out from our adventure to Alaska, and this blog is for our family and friends to keep tabs on us, enjoy the journey though our eyes, and perhaps inspire some to take an adventure of their own.
How did this all start? Well, it has always been a dream of mine to go to Alaska! If you know me, or have read the other blog I write, you know I travel all over the world for work and as much fun as I have doing that, there has always been a pull on my heart to go to a place that is wild, full of mountains and shows the wonder of God's creative imagination.
I was able to cruise last year for the first time for work to the Bahamas, and a year from that trip I got a phone call from the agent who helped me out...long story short, I helped him find a school to attend, he gave me a discount on my next cruise. That conversation got me thinking and I just asked how much it would be to go to Alaska. At the time in early February, the economy was looking dark, people were loosing jobs and the cost for things that were once unaffordable became affordable. Once he quoted me the price, there was no way I was going to pass this up! I contacted some friends who I knew might be able to go, and Cara was free (thanks to her new job) and willing to travel! After finding some cheap flights and using many of my points I have collected over the years from my travels it helped pay for hotels before the trip. We were on our way to planning!
A few weekends in March and April, Cara and I got together (she lives in another town) and started to plan out our adventure. The trip starts with a night in Indy so we make our flight out early the first morning, a day in Vancouver (where the Winter Olympics will be held next year and our hotel is across the street from the speed skating arena), and then the cruise.
We will be adding photos blogs about our trip, and are excited you have decided to join us!!
